The Taming of the Shrew

The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts celebrates its 30th Anniversary with an Inter-School collaboration production, Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, that uses music, dance, drama, movement and Chinese Opera elements to bring alive Shakespeare’s play for a contemporary audience in his 450th birthday year. It features students, staff and alumni of the Academy’s Schools including the School of Chinese Opera, School of Dance, School of Drama, School of Music, and School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts. |
African Tales by Shakespeare
March 22 and 23, 3pm Provocative, disquieting and cathartic like all his work African Tales explores the stories of those shunned by society. Its inspirations are three of Shakespeare’s best known ‘outsiders’, Shylock, Othello and Lear, together with characters created by Lebanese-Canadian Wajdi Mouawad and Nobel Prize-winning South African writer J.M.Coetzee. Here are men misunderstood and ostracised, suffering discrimination, the burden of power and lack of love. |
