It's once again the time for the family reunion dinner. Dispersed members of the clan are coming back to their childhood home to see each other. Yet, the atmosphere of this year differs much from that of the past. As senior members of the family hastily passed away, grudges and secrets hidden under the table are once again stirred up: orphaned children are slowly breaking down emotionally, supportive siblings are revealing their mutual envy, the next generation cannot wait to leave home at the earliest opportunity, money disputes are brought up evasively…
The audience should be quite familiar with these archetypal family tensions – they do not only take place in real life but are also played repeatedly in prime time dramas. Yet, our story begins from a lonely and desiccated place filled with sand. When wine glasses clink, when the story flows between the gap of confusion and reality, when the distance is only as long as a dining table, family members who should be the closest and dearest seem so distant, so estranged…

Two performers play with simple white balloons in all sorts of sizes and configurations to see what images they could make. They find that balloons can be many things. Through their exploration and play, they learn how to get along, how to make meaning together and how to discover whole worlds of possibility together and give rise to a rich variety of composition, beauty, laughter, wonder, joy and story. The show represents the way children play – the way they can imagine and invent so creatively with so little. We live in a cluttered world of complexity, sophistication and gadgetry yet the cardboard box or the simple balloon are still the most loved and utilized objects in children's play – perhaps because they are elemental.
December 4-6, 8pm
Hua Mulan is a classic heroine in Chinese literature. In Northern Wei dynasty during a time of foreign invasion, Mulan’s aging and vulnerable father was drafted into the army. To protect her father, Mulan disguised herself as a man and took her father’s place at war, even though this was illegal. Mulan became a General, led the army through bloodbaths and cruel battles, won the war and saved the country. However, when Mulan confessed to the emperor her real identity and pleaded for his permission to fight in the next war, she was punished. This production reflects on the power and status of women. Should adherence to traditional conventions always be seen as the highest virtue? Can doing something “wrong” be justified if it is for the “right” reasons?

Vanitas Libellum is a multimedia performance from Colombia that explores the concept of time and the form in which we perceive it. It consists of three acts: Hourglasses, City in motion and Change of state. Through illusionary visual effects and primitive body movements, it reflects the different visions, dreams and nightmares that humankind experiences in the passing of time. To enhance the impact, interactive technologies, real time motion tracking, giant projection and original live music are used.
With post-performance talk after each performance (conducted in English)

Dr Vicki Ooi's youth theater AFTEC has teamed up with Michael Brown, the movement artist behind the West End production of "War Horse" and last year's Oscar-winning space epic "Gravity," to bring an all-new physical theater retelling the Greek myth "Jason and the Argonauts." The young hero Jason was stripped of his claim to the throne by the usurper King Pelias. 20 years later, upon returning to take back what is his, Pelias makes a deal with Jason, to hand over the kingdom only if Jason can bring him the "Golden Fleece." And so Jason and his band of heroes set off... on a journey to find the most well-stocked Uniqlo in the land.
