Requiem HK

Choreographer turned choirmaster (and founder of the Yat Po Singers) Yuri Ng collaborates with CCDC's Yin Ng and Chow Yiu-fai to create a cross-over work, with dancers singing and singers dancing, in this world premiere requiem for our insular possession.

Dance Off

A highlight of Hong Kong’s contemporary dance scene, Dance Off continues to blaze new trails as works from the series catch the eye of the international dance scene and receive invitations from festivals and competitions across the globe. This year’s showcase sees the return of Tracy Wong, who reflects on the condition of one’s self being filled with pressures from the outside world. Sudhee Liao probes the performer’s relationship with a hyper-real dance space, and Felix Ke examines fear of death by drawing inspiration from Don DeLillo’s novel White Noise. Rex Cheng revamps the physical movements of Chinese opera in a contemporary dance duet, while award-winning street dancer Solong Zhang dances his dream of living as his authentic self. First-time choreographers Alice Ma and Evains Lui explore the sense of trust amongst city-dwellers and the state of our breathing in everyday life with their respective works.

Moon Looking Dog / I Saw The Elephant

Leading Korean choreographer Hong Sung-yop brings the Daegu Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) to Hong Kong with Moon-Looking Dog and I Saw the Elephant, works originally commissioned for the 2000 Lyon Dance Biennale in France.

Testimony

Inspired by Testimony, the controversial memoirs of Shostakovich, Helen Lai choreographs and Lee Chun-chow plays the Russian composer plus Shakespearean tragic characters and a Chaplinesque funny man in this unprecedented fusion of dance, music, moving image and theatre.

Winner in 2007 of a Hong Kong Dance Award, this show returns one decade on for this year's inaugural City Contemporary Dance Festival 2017.

City Contemporary Dance Festival

November 21 - 26

City Contemporary Dance Festival (CCDF) is an initiative by CCDC as a platform showcasing quality dance pieces to Hong Kong audiences as well as introducing top-notch dance artists from Hong Kong and Asia to presenters of international theatre and festivals.

The Festival is made up of three main components: "Dance X" brings cutting-edge contemporary dances from Hong Kong and Mainland China to the international stage, "Asian Contemporary Dance Company Touring Network" presents productions by Korean and Japanese professional dance companies; and HOTPOT East Asia Dance Platform showcases new contemporary choreographic works from Mainland Chinese, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwanese choreographers.
