November 8, 8pm Boccherini I Sinfonia in D minor, La Casa del Diavolo It’s all about the bass, the engine that drives the entire orchestra - but have you ever heard it solo? Multi Grammy award-winning American bassist and composer Edgar Meyer joins CCOHK in performing Bottesini’s double bass masterpiece and his own concerto, a hybrid of bluegrass and Haydnesque styles brimful with Meyer-made tricks. Baroque-inspired works by Boccherini and Schnittke round off the programme.

Festive Korea 2016 Gala Concert

Ensemble Intercontemporain
October 23, 8pm Founded in 1976 by Pierre Boulez, the late composer and contributor to contemporary music, one of the world’s most revered ensembles specialising in music of our time makes its long-due Hong Kong début, performing Schoenberg’s revolutionary Chamber Symphony No. 1, which also serves as an inspiration for Ligeti’s densely constructed Chamber Concerto. Donatoni’s Tema, one of the Ensemble’s favourites, is a powerfully organic work of fragments and their continuity. Also on the programme are Les Danses interrompues by Mantovani and Whirling Tissue of Light by the Ensemble's music director and conductor Matthias Pintscher. |
