The theatre world can be rife with secrets and weird little facts. Might as well spill a couple of them. Enjoy!

  1. Average rent for a theatre venue in town is between 10,000-20,000HKD per week.
  2. Only 10% of the dancers hired at the Hong Kong Ballet are from Hong Kong.
  3. The average Chinese actors' salary at TVB is 500HKD an hour.
  4. 90% of the English theatre shows in town are either community or "profit cut" shows.
  5. The largest profit making side of English speaking theatre is the Children's Theatre tours that are brought into schools.
  6. The Arts Development Council was only started in 1995.
  7. To be eligible to be nominated for a Hong Kong Drama Award, you have to be a member of the Hong Kong Drama Society.
  8. Most local artists currently rent art studios in the Sham Shui Po or Fo Tan area due to the cheap rent.
  9. The JCCAC blackbox is currently booked solid until June 2014.
  10. A lighting tech has informed me that there is a ghost in the Lion King theatre at HK Disneyland. His name is George.
