5 Cafes in Hong Kong with Free Wifi
15-6-15
In Hong Kong space is limited and as starving artists we need to be precious with our funding. The world can be your office as a performer and meetings are a big part of being an artist. Where to have those meetings can be a challenge in HK- especially if you're new in town.
Free, unlimited wifi isn't as common in Hong Kong as you think it would be. (SHOULD BE!)
In the US, all Starbucks and coffee shops provide it.
The comfy chairs and books at Think Cafe in CWB.
In Singapore it's provided at all libraries, mosques and temples but in HK, it seems you need to hunt forever or have a friend with some knowledge to find the hidden gems of free wifi. Let HKELD be that friend.
Here's 5 cafes that we love to have our meetings at:
1) Because they're wonderful local establishments
and
2) Because they have free unlimited wifi for all customers with purchase.
1) Capo's Espresso
4 Gilman's Bazaar, Central, Hong Kong
Located by the L Place, this is a Pulp Fiction themed cafe run by an Australian guy in Hong Kong that believes "Life is too short to drink sh**tty coffee". We can't help but agree with him and love the sarcasm of the staff, great wifi signal and delicious snacks at Capo's. They're competition level baristas- so expect a great cup of coffee when you come.
2) Think Cafe
Kyoto Plaza, 19B Kyoto Plaza 491-499 Lockhart Road Causeway Bay Tel: 2155 9677 |
Think Cafe is a membership club. You pay 60HKD to get 3hrs of unlimited water, tea and coffee options. Use great big tables, arm chairs and open spaces. The chairs are unbelievably comfy, there are plenty of places to charge your phone or computer and plenty of space to spread out for a big project. Bring your own food. This is our favorite place for a big production meeting.
3) Cafe 8
Pier 8, Central, Hong Kong
(On top of the Maritime Museum)
Cafe 8 is a charity cafe on top of Pier 8 in Central. It has one of the best views in the city and a great big cup of coffee that is the best price for value in Hong Kong. Café 8 is the result of a unique collaboration between the Hong Kong Maritime Museum and The Nesbitt Centre to create a progressive environment for members of our society with learning disabilities.
4) Wired Cafe
Shop 1403-04, 14/F, Hysan Place, 500 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong
Tel: 2331 8315
Wired Café has got everything you need… work, ambiance and tasty food. There’s free WiFi, a great view of Causeway Bay and unlimited refills on coffee for 90hkd. (Yes, you heard that right!) It also has a gigantic menu of Western and Japanese fusion food. Wired Café is located conveniently in Hysan Place.
5) Charlie Brown Cafe
58-60 Cameron Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui
Tel: 2366 6315
For our Kowloon readers we had to put this cute cafe on the list. It's a themed Snoopy cafe with adorable drinks and a really good wifi signal. (Make sure to take the receipt with you.) This cafe can be a little loud around lunch time and post school rush (3-5pm) but between those times it's eerily quiet and adorable. There are also decent snacks to keep you fueled up while you bust through your meeting agenda.
