Burn Bright!

  11-4-16

In today’s world, violence, anger, and Donald Trump make up the majority of the evening news. Where can we go when we feel so depressed from the daily muck? We have to go within and let our inner light shine.

There are many of us who carry an inner light in a darkened world. We know joy in a world of sorrow and peace in a time of storms. We have the ability to lift heavy burdens, heal wounded hearts, and bless weary souls. No matter what religion we are, we all have the ability to be kind to one another, and shine a light of positive energy into the world.

Smile

Wherever you go, look people in the eyes and smile. It seems so simple, but a smile can bring light into a person’s life quicker than anything else. Smiling is also scientifically proven to reduce blood pressure and release endorphins!

Serve

If you see someone struggling with groceries, help him to his car. If you see a mother with a baby carrier, hold the door for her. Give your seat to someone on the train that looks tired. Look for opportunities to give to others. They are all around you. Doing a selfless act and paying it forward can help you with your karmic weight. There are tons of opportunities in Hong Kong to do community service.

Give Compliments

There are always opportunities to compliment others, and every compliment you give is another way for the spirit to touch someone’s heart. Spread love around your friend group, give them compliments for their hard work, and learn to say thank you when someone gives you a compliment. It’s not egotistical to say thank you to someone when he praises you for your hard work.

Don’t Fear!

Don’t be afraid to talk to strangers in the supermarket, on the airplane, or at a coffee place when you’re dining alone. Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation and let your voice be heard. Sometimes a random conversation with a stranger on a train can lead to a lifelong friendship.

Be a Good Neighbor

Get to know your neighbors and learn to love them. Invite them into your home. I know in HK we sometimes go years without ever meeting our neighbors, but I think we should try and be a bit more neighborly. Be kind and it’ll come back to you ten fold.

We're starting a weekly Motivation Monday series to help HKELD readers burn brighter! This week’s challenge is to help us with our positive thinking. No whining for a week. None. No matter what happens, take it on the chin and don’t complain. Negative energy breeds further negative energy. Let the love grow with positive thinking! Are you up for the challenge?
