If Thespians were Dim Sum...
10-11-12
I've been wanting to do this article for a while. The analogy of theatre artists to Dim Sum. Dim Sum is a communal experience much like our art form. So I feel it is perfectly ridiculous and awesome to compare the two to each other.
The Director- The Tea
The director much like the concept of the production binds everything together much like the tea.
The Ingenue- The Har Gow
She must be well liked and sweet like Har Gow.
The Leading Man- The Char Siu Bao
The most popular one in the show. Girls are fighting over him much like the last char siu bao.
The Side Kick- The Siu Maai
He's a little bit quirky and he looks a little funny but he makes the meal perfect and is well liked.
The Supporting Lady- Taro Cake
She's salty and most likely has the mouth of a sailor. But that's why we love her and the salty bacon in our taro cakes!
The Chorus- The Rice
They are the most filling part of the production and are a basic staple of all meals.
The Designer- The Spring Rolls
Wrapped pretty, with the most prep time in the kitchen. Eaten quickly with very little appreciation for the time/work that went into it.
The Stage Manager- The Chopsticks
We couldn't do the show without them. We also couldn't eat the meal without them. Be careful though, if they don't like what you're doing to them it'll be a pretty miserable meal for you.
The Stage Hand- The Chicken Feet
Nobody comes to an audition wanting to do this job. Nobody comes to dim sum dinner wanting to eat the chicken feet.
