Memory is incomplete. A puzzle. Every experience, every treasured relationship, they’re pieces. And throughout our lives, we search for missing pieces – in ourselves, in those we love, in nowhere. Maybe we’re lucky – maybe we recover these pieces. But there is still a long way to go, a long journey until we complete our own puzzle.

CCDC is happy to be presenting their latest piece to audiences next month at the Hong Kong Cultural Center. Little Pieces is an emotional production that examines the bonds and links of human connection.

For almost forty years City Contemporary Dance Company has inspired and excited audiences – not only in Hong Kong but also around the world – performing superb contemporary dance pieces. Since the late seventies, CCDC has presented more than 200 works to critical acclaim, including many original works by up and coming choreographers. Dominic Wong is one of these talented choreographers to benefit from CCDC's passion for new works.

Innovative in choreography, Mr. Wong tries to break through the traditional conventions of dance. His works are typically physically demanding and feature a wide range of styles from comedic to sophisticated. We had a chance to chat with Dominic about Little Pieces. "I'm inspired by individual human fates, especially the relationship among people. Regardless of how insignificant, a little change can be something completely reshape your life."

In Little Pieces, Mr. Wong will share the life stories of dancers. He hopes to help guide the audience, encouraging them to complete their own life's puzzle. Other production team members on this project include set and costume designer, Yuen Hon‐wai and lighting designer, Low See Hoe. Dominic is known for his physically demanding style of dance. Dancers must train hard to be able to present this kind of modern dance which is challenging and requires synergy and team work from his performers. "I feature a wide range of styles... In Little Pieces... I choreographed together with the dancers. They may express something we wanted to do, other than the things I have assigned them to do," he says.

Dominic studied dance at the HKAPA and since his graduation in 1996, Mr. Wong has been working for CCDC. He has since received two Hong Kong Dance Awards for “Outstanding Performance by a Male Dancer” for his performances in Plaza X (2000) and The Comedy of K (2012) both with CCDC.

Little Pieces will be presented at the Studio Theatre at the Hong Kong Cultural Center in TST from April 15th to 17th. Evening performances will be at 8pm with weekend matinees at 3pm. Ticket prices range from 160-220HKD with concession tickets available for students, person with disabilities, and seniors. Tickets are available for this production now via URBTIX.

There are several Program Plus events happening with the event including a photo exhibit, an open rehearsal, and a post-show meet the artist event. For more information on these events and to make a reservation, visit the CCDC website. You can connect with CCDC by liking their Facebook page.
