Reminder!
6-12-12
A gentle reminder to the English speaking theatre community that Arts Development Council grants are due by December 31, 2012.
This means you have 3 weeks left to get those grants done. (Or started...)
I recently read that less than 5% of the grant money in Hong Kong goes to English speaking performance groups. (Just the performance groups. This does not include the money that is given to the Education based performance groups.) With Cantonese and Dance Companies in town receiving millions of dollars in grant money every year it made me wonder why so little was going to us!
I wrote an email to the ADC simply asking this question. I got a call back from the Planning and Development department yesterday.
"The percantage of grants given to English based companies in town is proportionate to those that apply."
This means we simply aren't doing the paper work, people! So get your grants in. We can't complain that we don't get any money if we don't get them in on time.
I'll do some of the work for you. Here is the ADC website: http://hkadc.org.hk
Go to the Grant Commisioned Projects section and follow the steps laid out on the website. It's a pretty easy process but you will have to write a pretty lengthy proposal, have some press clippings of responses to your previous work (these can be outside of Hong Kong) and have photo examples of your work or sketches of the proposed project. Most grants require 2 bound copies to be mailed in by December 31. 1-2 year Grants require more work than a simple project grant. Grant interviews begin after Chinese New Year.
What are you waiting for? Get writing!
