Theatre Game of the Week #43
If you're looking for a theatre game that will help you teach your youngsters parts of a car, then this is the game for you! It's called Blowout! Now, I can see where car parts may not be the most useful English words to learn in HK. I'm sure you could reinvent this game to learn different parts of something... But I've always learned it with car parts.
Game Name: Blowout
Materials Needed: Open space and chairs
Time needed: 10+ mins
Students needed: 10+
Step 1) Students sit in a circle and are assigned the names of car parts. (ie. hood, wheel, door, etc.) The storyteller tells a story of a road trip.
Step 2) As the teller tells the story, the parts mentioned get up and follow him/her and become the car. They act out the story as the storyteller tells it.
Step 3) When the storyteller yells "Blowout" the kids scramble for a seat. (Kinda like musical chairs.) The one left out becomes the next storyteller.
In the end: Students have worked on their story telling skills and have learned parts of a car. The first storyteller should be the teacher to help them get a feel for how to play the game.
