Theatre Game of the Week #2
Game Name: Action Movie
Tools Needed: An empty space.
Approx Game Time: 10 minutes prep, 10 minutes performance each group.
This is a group activity where you break a large number of students into teams. This also can be an improv exercise if you have a smaller group of 5 or less.
1 student is the narrator and narrates the story. Using the classic "action movie" cliches, he guides our hero, his sidekick, his love interest and the villain through the story. The students draw their characters out of a hat for fairness.
Narrator tells the action and actors must act it. (Unless narrator says something innapropriate or mean spirited.)
Story must have a clear beginning, middle and ending.
In the end: The audience should be able to identify who is the hero, the villain, the problem and the solution in the story. Audience should also be able to give constructive acting criticism.
For advanced groups: You can add obstacles and super-powers through audience suggestions or by drawing them out of a hat. The improv element of the narrator not telling the actors what is going to happen can also be an excellent challenge for advanced students.
