Chung Nam Book & Stationery, Yau Mau Tei
Chung Nam Book & Stationery is one of the largest stationery stores in Hong Kong and has moved from its original spot in Mong Kok over to nearby Yau Ma Tei. There are still 20,000 types of stationery products ranging from pens to office copiers and products for professional artists.
The Architecture Shop, Sai Ying Pun
Located on Pok Fu Lam Rd. by the HKU campus, this is a shop that provides supplies for Architecture students at HKU. It also is a plethora of materials for building set models, making masks and doing drafting. All at reasonable prices, especially for the island.
This shop is a staple for its location on Stanley St. in Central, their late hours and their friendly English speaking staff. You can get things for construction like plywood and spray paint but also more delicate things like paper for quilling. They also have a great supply of paper for props in various colors and the ability to buy by the sheet or pack. (Very helpful for artists who only need one piece for a show and want to go green.)
Joint Publishing Co. Ltd., Kwai Chung and Tsuen Wan
Joing Publishing probably doesn't sound like a stationary shop to you but it is. They have two locations at the Kwai Chung Plaza in Kwai Fong and another in Tsuen Wan. Because of they're outside the city center, they have two things going for them: bigger stores and cheaper rent. This means two things for customers. They can fill their shelves with larger product, like foam related items and the prices are lower. Head out of the city center when you want to make a big purchase. Your wallet will thank you.
There cannot be an art shop list without mentioning art land. They have a huge amount of product and a very helpful staff when it comes to taking a project you might have questions about. They also host exhibits of local artists, which is really nice to do. There one of the few shops in town that carry a lot of materials for Ceramics and Pottery artists.
