A new theatrical adaptation of Jane Eyre, the beloved novel by Charlotte Brontë, adapted and directed by AFTEC Emerging Director 2016 Michael Sharmon, and performed by a cast of professional and young actors.
Orphaned at 10, Jane Eyre is sent to live with her aunt who despises her. Strong and outspoken, the young girl tries to rise up against this. Not knowing what to do with her, her aunt sends her to a boarding school where she meets the sympathetic Miss Temple, who inspires her to become a teacher. Jane often dreams of a world where women can have the same opportunities as men, and when she finishes her education, she advertises and gets a position as the Governess of a young French girl at Thornfield Hall where she meets the mysterious Mr Edward Rochester. The attraction between Jane and Rochester is almost immediate but Rochester has a secret that he hides from the world. . . Will this secret ruin Jane’s chances of happiness?
