The company spark off their opening season with German playwright Süskind’s “The Double Bass”, the monologue that made this writer famous way before ‘Perfume’ racked up mega-dollars as an international best-seller and movie. Neil Art stars as the protagonist Player, with the Double Bass his on-stage consort, music his madness and beer his bitter consolation. First performed here for Hong Kong’s 1996 Arts Festival (in Cantonese, with Frederic Mao directed by Tang Shu Wing, whose translation surtitles this reworking of Michael Hoffman’s English rendition), Brave Heart’s ‘Hong Kong premiere in English’ production promises classic theatrical entertainment with a distinct Hong Kong twist.
