August Snow

December 20-21, 8pm and 3pm

A dance poem about longing and the four seasons, using Chinese dance techniques with a contemporary choreographic approach.  From the blooming of the red spider lilies in autumn to water lilies waving in the summer breeze, it tells of the cycle of time and its impermanence.  Just as snow might fall in August, two people might meet unexpectedly.

Venus in Fur

Vanda, an actress, arrives to audition, her bag filled with S&M gear and period costumes. Soon the playwright is drawn into reading his own script with this mysterious woman, with breaks to argue about the meaning of the story and the motivation of the characters. Set in a stark rehearsal studio, this fast-moving 90-minute play is both an intellectual adventure and a very funny encounter between an actress and a playwright.

Elvis McGonagall: One Man and his Doggerel!

Elvis is the 2006 World Slam Champion, a regular on BBC Radio 4 and has appeared on BBC1, BBC2 and Channel 4.

Crossing Borders

A solo dance recital by Oxana Banshikova, exploring how the technique of South Indian classical dance can be used in compositions that are written in different languages, are set to various musical styles, and interpret different cultures.  Inspired by her own experiences as a Kazakhstan-born Bharatanatyam dancer who has spent most of her life travelling the world, Oxana will take you on a journey illustrating how this ancient Indian dance form has evolved through the ages and why it’s now attracting more dancers and audience-members worldwide.

The Elephant Man

Performance Exchange, an internationally acclaimed theatre company from London and a regular visitor to the Fringe Club, presents a new working of the inspiring true story of John Merrick, the Elephant Man.

1890. Set against the backdrop of Victorian London and the serial murders by Jack The Ripper, John Merrick, suffering from a rare genetic disorder, is exhibited as a monstrosity at fairs and circuses. Eventually rescued by the famous London surgeon Frederick Treves, he emerges as a loving, gentle and dignified human being.
