Art helps special needs kids in their self-expression, life skills, literacy and coordination. Art is a great way for special needs kids to find success in life. By understanding the benefits of integrating special education with art, parents and educators can find inspiration to introduce art into their school’s curriculum.

How to Get a Rehearsal Room in Town17-11-14

One thing we all search for in a busy city like Hong Kong is space to rehearse our shows in. Space is a commodity in this town. The local theatre/dance producers are always on the search for any open spaces to rehearse their plays for cheap. We don't really have this issue in more spacious countries like the good ol' US of A due to the large size of our living rooms and open community centers. Here's my tips for finding a rehearsal space in Hong Kong that won't eat away 1/2 of your budget.

Preview-Romance-Aurora Theatre11-11-14

Home grown theatre company Aurora Theatre is back with their latest production, Romance, by award-winning playwright and theorist David Mamet. "This is Aurora Theatre's 10th play," says director Nicole Garbellini. "We've been around for three and half years. Our first play was Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross... The first time I read this play I was quite in shock. Will Hong Kong audiences be ready for this play?" Nicole is a well known face on the Hong Kong stage and has appeared in countless productions since her arrival in 2005, working with various theatre companies including: ACT, Perilous Mouths, Stylus Productions, Theatron and Shakespeare in the Port, on top of her role as maestro for Aurora Theatre.

Adrian Noble Comes to HK28-10-14

Last night Adrian Noble gave a free talk at the Cultural Center about his career as a director, his stance on Shakespeare and his upcoming production of Hedda Gabler with New Vision Arts Festival. Adrian Noble is an award-winning director and administrator from the UK, known for his unique style of taking classical pieces and reinventing them with grand scale designs. He was the Artistic Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1991 to 2003 and worked with prolific actors during his tenure like Ben Kingsley, Helen Mirren, Daniel Day Lewis and many others.

Want to Join the Critic's Panel?28-10-14

Due to an increase demand for reviews over the next 6 weeks HKELD will be adding one more slot to their critic's panel in fall of 2014. We are looking for an art loving, opinionated person to fill the slot. Most members of the critic's panel are artists, but this is not a requirement of the position. Writers are not traditionally compensated for their work but get valuable writing experience, free tickets to shows, and a reference for their resume.
