Creativity Continues to Pour Out of the Umbrella Movement25-10-14

New projects continue to pop up daily at Occupy Central. Everything from performance art with dancing umbrellas to photo projects. We've continued going down to the site daily to get photographs of what's been happening and we took a walking tour with our Iphone to show our international viewers the space. We've been working with our UMAP initiative to add over 3,000 photos to the digital archive on FB so far! Check it out.

Theatre on Film22-10-14

Last week I had the chance to watch the National Theatre Live encore screening of Danny Boyle’s 2011 production Frankenstein, starring Johnny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch. It was my first time watching recorded theatre in the cinema, and though I was initially doubtful of the concept, I walked out a happy theatre/cinema-goer. Here is my evaluation of how commercially sold recorded theatre weighs against conventional theatre.

Preview-The Double Bass-Brave Heart Theatre21-10-14

If you’ve been in Hong Kong pre-handover you might remember The Double Bass (in Cantonese) directed by Tang Shu Wing at the 1995 Hong Kong Arts Festival. Written by award winning German playwright and novelist (who wrote Perfume) Patrick Suskind, it tells the story of a musician working in an orchestra as (you guessed it) a Double Bass player.

The Art of Occupy Central8-10-14

This past week has been a pivotal week for artists in Hong Kong. Their work is being celebrated like no other time in HK and for the first time public art and street art have dominated the art scene. It was stated earlier this week that the Lennon Wall was posted and liked on Instagram over 5,000 times since its creation!
