Review- Mousetrap-Lunchbox Productions10-10-12

On the 9th of October 2012, Hong Kong was provided the pleasure of hosting Lunchbox Theatrical Productions' performance of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap. The Mousetrap is the quintessential "whodunit" and has been deemed the longest running play anywhere in the world. It has been playing at the West End for 60 years and is still going strong.

Review-End.Stop.Line- Dance Kho6-10-12

DANCE Kho is a new contemporary dance company that just began this year. They had an opening night performance of End.Stop. Line. at the Fringe Club on the 5th of October 2012. This performance featured two dancers, Kirsten Ho and Takao Komaru, who recently returned to the East after spending a few years in New York City working with numerous dance companies, including The Alvin Ailey American Dance Centre. Choreographed by Kirsten, they presented six 10-minute pieces that focused around different themes, ideas and movements. Each of them used a unique approach and had their own story to tell.

Review- Unbearable Dreams VI- Hope5-10-12

On Thursday I was invited to see Unbearable Dreams VI- Hope which was part of the Asia Meets Asia Festival 2012. It's a fusion festival of artists from all across Asia. This year's festival included participants from Tokyo, Taipei, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Kabul, Bangalore and Bangkok. There will be several performances over this weekend. Due to the somewhat organic nature of this production I cannot guarantee that you'll see the same show I saw tonight.

Shows We'll Be Reviewing in October30-9-12

We were really blessed to review some awesome shows in September. Hong Kong sure has variety in its entertainment scene. We got to review modern dance, ballet, world premiere short plays, physical theatre, improv, comedy and even a show made completely of bubbles. Thanks to all the groups who offered us press tickets in September! We're a small start-up company and we cannot do our job without your continued support. Take a look, October is also going to be really exciting from the looks of things!

Review-Choices-Deaf Drama Festival27-9-12

On Wednesday evening, the 26th of September 2012, the Hong Kong Arts Centre presented the first in a two-part series of programs featuring performing artists who are deaf or hard of hearing. Their intention is to promote the dogma that there “are no boundaries in the world of arts.”

Review-Champagne & Cigarettes-Aurora Theatre19-9-12

It’s the weirdest thing. An evening of new plays – 10 to be precise, though one of them bifurcates either side of the interval so it looks at first glance like 11 – and not one of the writers is credited in the programme. Why so many budding dramatists should wish to remain anonymous is a mystery – all the more so when the quality of the writing – the dialogue, set-up and structure for each piece - is consistently accomplished and engaging.

Review- Potted Potter- ABA Productions19-9-12

“All seven Harry Potter books in seventy hilarious minutes!” says the ad. Well that was not the case, except the hilarious part. In the tradition of shows like The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), The Complete History of America (abridged) and The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged), all of which have been performed in Hong Kong. Potted Potter attempted to tell the story of all seven Harry Potter books in a series of goofy comedy sketches. This time, however, it came in the form of an eager expert (performed by Gary Trainor) trying to present the highlights while a wicked faker (performed by Jesse Briton) sabotages his each and every effort.

Review- Rambert Dance Company14-9-12

Boy, am I glad that the other reviewer for this show was double booked for the evening! I had never heard of the Rambert Dance Company until I was on the MTR last month and saw a very intriguing poster. Little did I know how wonderful this show was going to be! The Rambert Dance Company is one of the foremost contemporary dance companies in the UK. Created in 1926 by Martha Rambert, they have become a pillar in the United Kingdom for creating innovative work and putting out some of the best choreographers over the past decades.

Review-Improvmania-People's Liberation Improv13-9-12

Thursday we were invited to Improvmania, part of the Hong Kong Comedy Festival. It was presented at TakeOut Comedy on Elgin Street in Soho. What's funny can often be subjective. People can think different things are funny based on culture, generation, pop culture knowledge, sex, education level, orientation, political affiliation, etc. So, in order to give this show a fair shot we are having this show reviewed by two parties: The Female and The Male. Let's break down our two parties!

Review-The Amazing Bubble Man-Lunchbox Productions12-9-12

The Amazing Bubble Man is a kid's show so I feel it's only appropriate to open this article with quotes from the kids that watched the show this afternoon with me. "I like the show because the man is very funny."- Michael, age 6 "The bubbles are rainbows!"- Julie, age 5 "This show is too long... I'm sleepy!"- Little girl in pink jacket "If you're so amazing why do you keep breaking them?" - Akari (age unknown) "You're good at the blow jobs."- Izack (refering to how Mr. Pearl is good at blowing bubbles...) "I am an alien!!!!!"- Kid in the blue shirt
